Sustainability

AERA'S SUSTAINABILITY PLAN

Aera is on a mission to design and create products that stand the test of time. In that spirit, we have made transparency and care for the environment our main pillars and we are fully committed to collaborating only with partners that help us achieve our sustainability goals.

SUSTAINABILITY MEANS THREE THINGS TO US

Reducing the impact of our operations and the products we make

Creating precious products that will endure

Using recycled materials to create our products wherever possible

HOW WE ACHIEVE THESE GOALS

Here’s how we achieve these goals across the various aspects of our business

PRODUCT

Creating limited runs of each watch avoids over-production

The casing of a well-cared-for watch is designed to last a lifetime, as should a regularly maintained movement.

Our watches are not produced to be disposable. Their robust design means repairs can be made effectively over time.

Straps are designed to integrate across all our watches. We keep production quantities low by reducing the need to produce different straps for each model.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS

Our watches are produced in a Swiss factory, which generates up to eighty percent of the electricity needed for production with a photovoltaic system on the roof.

The manufacturer producing the watch is CO₂ neutral.

Our manufacturer is constantly working on increasing the share of recycled metal used in production.

Through a cooperation with Fairventures Worldwide, our manufacturer has planted a total of 2,000 seedlings in 2020, removing 400 tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere.

PACKAGING & DELIVERY

Made out of paper and fully recyclable and biodegradable.

Has FSC certification, meaning that the pulps used are all from managed forests. It is Heavy Metal Free and because the bleaching process avoids the use of harmful chlorine, it is classified ECF.

We are going with a local, UK-based supplier which will mean less impact in transit.

We decided early on that all our instruction manuals and warranties would live only online to reduce the need for printing paper manuals.

We anticipate offering customers an optional smaller, even lower-impact box for delivery, breaking the industry wide system of lavish presentation boxes that are otherwise thrown away or stored.
