Sadly not, at least, not in that way. The jewels are vital to the smooth running of a movement; they are the durable, friction-reducing bearings in which the pinions and other parts of a watch movement rotate. They are universally man-made because they are more consistent in quality and performance.

316L stainless steel - also known as surgical steel - is used for the overwhelming majority of modern wristwatches. 904L Stainless steel - from which Aera watches are made - is known as a superalloy. 904L has more nickel, chromium, molybdenum and copper which makes it more expensive and harder to process. However it is more resistant to corrosion and pitting, which means a longer life for the case and a more durable finish, which is why it is used in the aerospace and chemical industries. Increased chromium content also gives the brushed surface a deeper, more lasting lustre whether polished or brushed. Yet it is still surprisingly rare in watchmaking. So it is for both practical and aesthetic reasons that we decided to go the extra mile.

Currently, our P-1 Pilot and D-1 Diver use the Swiss made Sellita SW200-1 Automatic movement.

Sellita is a widely-known manufacturer of dependable and accurate workhorse movements based in La Chaux de Fonds, Switzerland. Sellita’s automatic movements have been tried and tested by multiple well-known Swiss watch brands. To Aera, that meant we are in good company and, more importantly we are able to provide reliable long-term timekeeping. 

We don’t artificially limit our main collection watches in terms of numbers, rather we produce in batches limited by the production limitations of our factory. The first production run is represented by serial numbers (1-300) of each of the Pilot and Diver.
